I grew up in a family where emotions weren’t really spoken about. It was ‘happy’ or ‘sad’ and nothing in between. Fast forward to my 20’s where ‘happy’ and ‘sad’ don’t really explain why I’m in my bed crying for the 3rd day in a row, or am so petrified of starting a new job because the thought of having to meet, and be liked by new people, makes me want to throw-up. Depression, anxiety. Two emotions that are not understood by my immediate family. That feeling that you’re ‘going through it all alone’ is very hard to shake when your only option is to go to strangers for help.
