Why is it that when a cancer survivor tells their story they are seen as brave, but when someone who suffers from mental illness tells their story, they are labeled “attention seekers”? Why is it that when someone screams for help after they’ve fallen and broke a bone, everyone rushes to help, but when someone with mental illness cries for help, people turn the other way?
Why is there a stigma surrounding mental illness, when its a disease just like any physical disease?
Why is it that when someone has the flu people bring soup and wish them well, but when someone is at home and so depressed that they can’t get out of bed, people are quick to say “get up, you'll get over it, it'll pass”?
