After having a long drawn out psychotic episode in 2012 I was hospitalized and diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. I “came out” having the illness in 2019, when I created a web series all about mental health. Written by 4 individuals living with mental illness, we filmed our pilot Episode with a cast/crew and then screened the finished pilot at a theater in NJ. The pilot was about living with schizoaffective disorder. We were an early selection to a film festival, the NJ Web Fest for their 2021 event. I was contacted on Instagram by a girl out in California last year who said my story sounded a lot like hers in that she had a psychotic schizophrenic episode and after pushing for answers they found out she actually had Lyme disease and through the correct medication her schizophrenic symptoms went away. Sounds fake, huh? I got tested and just like that, I found out that I too, had Lyme. I’ve been on antibiotic medication since February 2020. My symptoms have decreased in many ways, it’s truly amazing. It could take years to be cured, but I don’t mind that. Health is just so important. Would love to share my story to help people come to terms with mental illness and then also see if there are other physical diseases that could be the cause of their mental illness.
