The depression, anxiety, and disordered eating that I’ve come to know intimately as my own have pulled at me relentlessly like rip currents in the ocean. It took me 15 years to articulate my mental health issues with a therapist. I thought this was my private burden to bear and I went to extraordinary lengths to keep it out of sight. But eventually I hit a tipping point - the energy that previously fueled my obsessions and perfectionistic tenancies was completely depleted. I am still working on myself as well as rejecting the stigma associated with mental health issues - it will probably be lifelong process. Medication is also changing my life in ways I never imagined. Slowly, I am learning how to float. I hope you know that you are not alone.
